Dropbox, the popular online file storage service, is offering up to 5GB of free storage for those who beta test a new automatic photo and video uploading feature. Talk about an incentive to beta test a service.
"During this beta period, we are also offering additional free space to test automatic uploading of photos and videos. For every 500MB of photos and videos automatically uploaded, you'll receive another 500MB space bonus, up to 4.5GB total. To clarify, you can get up to 5GB of free space with this feature, if you count the initial 500MB space for the first photo import," Dropbox stated in an official forum post.
This new feature is a part of the new Experimental Dropbox build 1.3.12 software and it allows for photos and videos to be uploaded automatically from cameras, smartphones, and SD cards. It works pretty simple. Just plug your device into your computer and the Dropbox software will automatically upload the data to the user's Dropbox account. You must have AutoPlay enabled in Windows for this feature to work.
"We'll need a few weeks to be certain of its stability. We will rapidly release new builds as necessary to snipe the most common issues as they arise," Dropbox added.
You can download the latest experimental build of Dropbox below and note that it contains the following fixes:
■ 500MB of free space on first photo import
■ Cleanup UI in Windows non admin installation.
■ Fix infinite restart of Dropbox when database was corrupted.
■ Fix import error on iPhone with lots and lots of photos.
■ Better Handling of out of quota issues on first photo import.
■ Other small fixes
