Brother tablet PC: Another tablet with Chrome(d edges)
« on: January 12, 2010, 02:29:29 AM »

OK, so this 10 inch tablet from Shenzhen Great Loong Brother Industrial isn’t actually running Google Chrome like some other tablets we’ve seen. But it does have shiny chrome around the edges of the tablet which gives it an eye-catching visual appeal. On the other hand, when you combine a shiny frame with a glossy display, you’re just asking for fingerprints to collect on a touchscreen tablet.

As far as the specifications, this tablet basically comes across as a netbook without a keyboard. It has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, GMA 950 graphics, a 10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel touchscreen display, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. It supports Windows XP, Vista, and 7 as well as Linux.

The Brother Tablet also has 802.11b/g/ WiFi, a VGA output, 3 USB ports, mic, headphone, and Ethernet jacks, and an SD card reader. Bluetooth and 3G options are available. On the inside there are 2 mini-PCI-E slots.

There’s no word on pricing, because this model isn’t available in the US yet. But until Brother does something about the battery life, I don’t think we’ll be seeing it here anytime soon. With a 2400mAh battery, the tablet runs for just 1.5 hours.
