Windows 10 Cloud Will Be Able To Run Win32 Apps, After All
« on: February 27, 2017, 05:16:36 PM »
But with a catch. Microsoft is currently preparing a new SKU of its operating system, Windows 10 Cloud, which according to the grapevine will be similar to Windows RT.

In ways that this version would be LIMITED to Windows Store apps.

Installing those traditional Win32 programs, desktop software in other words, like on the Home or Pro version of Windows 10 WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE. However, now some new INSIGHTS are here with us that claim that users will be able to download Win32 software.

As long as it is published in the Windows Store.

Nothing earth shattering — we knew this was always on the cards.

But it seems that Microsoft wants to use Windows 10 Cloud as a new method of convincing developers to bring their software, apps and games, to the Windows Store. Not doing so would basically deprive them of the opportunity to cater to these users that choose this version of the OS.

Of course, the software titan already offers the necessary bridges to port Win32 software to the Windows Store using PROJECT CENTENNIAL.

However, the number of developers that have joined this initiative is rather small until now.

With this strategy, though, the company hopes that more developers would do the deed and offer traditional desktop software to users of Windows 10 Cloud.

Until that happens, though, Redmond wants to use this opportunity to provide users with alternatives whenever they attempt to install a Win32 program.

Like so:

Sure, Microsoft is yet to even publicly acknowledge this new version of the operating system, even though leaks continue to come out, revealing that this SKU of Windows 10 is at an advanced stage of development.

With BUILD 2017 set for May 10, and the launch of the CREATORS UPDATE before that in April, we may yet get the official details straight from the proverbial horse’s mouth.
