Some People Really Want A Dark Theme For Windows 10
« on: January 02, 2015, 02:13:39 PM »
One of the more incredible shifts in user interface design came with the arrival of highly refine dark UI themes. With Windows 10 in early development phase, some users want this for the OS.

Software like 3D Studio Max, the various Adobe programs and several other applications successfully implemented completely black of dark themed interfaces — very successfully. So much so that the upcoming Office 16 also apparently features a dark theme.

They really are great for designers and developers that spend hours staring on their computer screens.

However, it so happens that some users want this for Windows 10.

This feedback request has been posted on the Windows UserVoice channel here, and it apparently has a total of 997 votes as of this writing. Meaning, there is a fair chance that Microsoft has noticed this, one way or another.

The user that originally posted this, explains:

Quote
“Include Dark Theme for the desktop. As developer and designer, dark theme is a ‘must have’ in order to reduce the visual stress. For example Visual Studio 2013 have dark theme, Adobe Photoshop and Autodesk 3dsmax is already build-in dark.”
Eloquently put, even though the chances of this happening are rather slim.

It is a handy feature, but not really something that the average user might want to use on an operating system. Even though there are a number of custom themes and third-party solutions on Windows that provide the ability to use a dark interface.

Besides, Redmond seems really interested in making the Windows 10 user interface closer to what Windows 7 offered. But you never know with things, we just may get it.
