Bitbop is a streaming video service for mobile devices. The service comes from Fox Mobile, and it’s currently available for BlackBerry, but iPhone and Android versions are in the works. The folks at IntoMobile managed to get their hands on a pre-release version of the Android client, and they seem pretty impressed.
The user interface looks pretty slick, although it’s a little quirky at the moment. For instance, you can’t actually watch a program without first adding it to your queue. But that may change when the app graduates from beta.
The Bitbop Android app works over 3G and WiFi connections, and there’s a pretty decent selection of premium TV content available right now including episodes of 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, NCIS, and Spongebob Squarepants. While Bitbop was developed by Fox Mobile, the company has partnerships with CBS, USA, SyFy, MTV, TLC, Discovery, Bravo, and a bunch of other networks.
In addition to streaming episodes, you can even download programs to your device for viewing when you don’t happen to have an internet connection handy. Episodes are commercial free, but the full version of the service is expected to run $10 per month.
Right now there don’t appear to be any movies available, but there is a movie section which I suspect will eventually be fleshed out.
