Update: It looks like the problem has been fixed now, at least according to Brad Rossetti. The issue appears to have been limited to the Beta Ring but there were still some Alpha Insiders experiencing the problem. Whatever it was, it’s been resolved. You can update your consoles now if you’re in both groups.

It looks like the latest Xbox One builds for Alpha and Beta Insiders—that we know of so far—are causing widespread factory resets. Many users flooded Xbox Support with reports of this last night and this morning. Xbox Support passed along the concerns to the appropriate team and Microsoft’s Brad Rossetti said that the company was investigating the problem. While it appears that the issue has been resolved for Beta Insiders, Alpha Insiders will have to wait a bit longer. However, some Beta Insiders are still reporting the problem so it’s unclear what’s going on.

The factory reset-causing problem is definitely related to Microsoft’s servers. Hopefully, the company will fix it soon because having to install games again from scratch and tweak numerous settings is beyond aggravating. For example, some of us have over 600 games and apps on Xbox One, so the task is an insurmountable one. We’ll update you when we know more.
