Toshiba is releasing a Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet this year, a bit later than was originally expected but it will come. Questions about features for the tablet have long been answered. Questions about pricing have also been answered. The only thing not known for sure is the name for the 10-inch tablet.

After its official unveiling during CES the Toshiba Android 3.0 tablet has had many names associated with it on official levels.

There has been the name 'Toshiba Tablet’ the name on the US Toshiba.com site for the tablet. The name ‘Toshiba ANT-100′ has also surfaced in the US but on listings for online electronics retailer Newegg’s website. The third name tied to this tablet is ‘Toshiba Regza Tablet AT300‘ which is the official name of the exclusive Japan only version of the tablet.

Today there are new reports that Toshiba is naming the tablet ‘Toshiba Thrive’ and a TV advertisement has already been filmed with that name. Those reports come from European sources, with that said my theory on the name of the tablet is this, Toshiba is going to have the tablet use different names based on the release site.

In the US the name is ‘Toshiba Tablet', in Europe ‘Toshiba Thrive’ and in Asia ‘Toshiba Regza Tablet AT300′. Don’t think that could happen? Take a look at LG Electronics and their Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet. LG’s tablet in the US goes by the name ‘LG G-Slate‘ but in other areas of the world the tablet is known as ‘LG Optimus Pad‘.

Toshiba announced their launch of this new 10-inch Android 3.0 tablet in the US got pushed back until later this Summer. Release for the European market is expected to about the same time as the US. When the tablet released in the US and in Europe we shall see if my theory is correct or not.

Update: Toshiba Tablet has a name

No longer a tablet with no name, the Toshiba tablet will be called "The Toshiba Thrive Tablet" more than likely referred to as "The Thrive" with a starting price of $449.00 USD.

For $449 you’ll get a tablet with 8GB of storage, a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel capacitive touchscreen display, a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, 2MP front camera and 5MP rear camera, 802.11b/g/n WiFI, Bluetooth 3.0, a removable 23 Whr battery, GPS, HDMI, USB, and SD card ports.

The tablet will measure 10.75″ x 0.62″ x 6.97″ and weigh about 1.6 pounds.

There’s also a $579 model which is nearly identical, except it has 32GB of storage instead of 8GB. You could probably save a lot of money by picking up the cheaper model and investing in an SDHC card, but at least the Toshiba Thrive 32GB model is still $20 cheaper than a list-price Motorola XOOM WiFi tablet.
