Liked the CAT phones’ thermal cameras? You can also have that on a tablet, like the Panasonic Toughpad models. Today we learn that there’s a new Panasonic ToughPad FZ-M1 in town, a follow-up to the 2014 model, that’s rugged and updated with a thermal camera.
The built-in thermal digicam is dubbed Lepton and it’s provided by the “Thermal by FLIR” program, which was announced with 4 big partners at CES 2018. Lepton offers up to 160 by 120 thermal resolution between minus 20 degrees and 400 degrees Celsius, plus or minus five degrees for the imaging temperature range.
Panasonic ToughPad FZ-M1 comes with Standard and Pro software options, letting users measure high and low points, but also capture still images or record film and add metadata to images, like QR codes for example.
The extra data functionality lets images be integrated with multiple business segments. The slate packs a 7-inch screen with a 1280 x 800-pixel resolution and inside there’s an Intel Core 6th gen or Atom CPU, an unknown quantity of RAM and storage size.
Panasonic promises stylus input here, also touch input with fingers and even with gloves on. It runs on Windows 10 Pro out of the box and can be configured with a barcode reader, 4G LTE connectivity, Smartcard and Serial port.
There’s a 3200 mAh battery in the mix, which is supposed to offer up to 8 hours of usage on a single charge. Expect to see this in stores in March.
