CD key no !! I just skipped this at the instal and later i activated as administrator with the Windows 7 Activator in the link provided.

Perhaps it's better to do one of the simple tricks I posted before:
here are the locations of the two files:
pkeyconfig.xrm-ms - C:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\pkeyconfig
tokens.dat - C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

Replace BOTH of those files with the respective ones from 7232, Stop the Software protection service before you replace, and start it again afterwards. Now punch in a beta/RC key and activate

It works on 7264 x86 and he has another patch for x64.
I tested on 7260 x86 so might not work right on lower builds.

Wow, this seems like a really bad situation as to what can activate 7264. I can't imagine the problems we'll have come the final rtm.

Once the RTM is released in October, it will have to be purchased and will come with a COA and a key to activate it.

Everybody must understand what we are getting at Hi-Jacked copies and many times the keys are stored in different locations than the builds.

I downloaded the 7264 x64 version

.... but it won't upgrade my Build 7232

It said Windows 7 could not upgrade this pre-release version of Windows.

Anybody else has the same problem?

Please help, I have been doing upgradings without problems until trying to upgrade Build 7232 to this Build 7264.

The Orbit30 activator worked and told me to restart Windows, but when I did it did not register as activated.

Although, if the rearm command still works, then we don't need to activate as long as we buy our copy when it's released...

After successfully installing Build 7264 the image below is what appeared in the lower right hand corner of my monitor. This is before w7activator had been run.

The picture below is after running w7activator.  As you can plainly see on the System Information page, it mentions nothing about being activated, nor can I enter a key.

Therefore in my opinion w7activator delivers mixed results, since I have no earthly idea if Build 7264 is activated or not, however 'This copy of Windows is not genuine' was removed after restarting. I guess only time will tell.

According to various reports, Windows 7 build 7264 has just been leaked and is now available for download on torrent channels.

The continued surge in the build number signifies little else other than Microsoft is still making small changes before the operating system hits the ‘final’ release to manufacturing stage.

Build 7264 offers a good sign that it’s nearing the RTM stage, the product keys used to activate both the beta and release candidate no longer work. This could mean that Microsoft has integrated into this version the final activation key code structure that’ll be used for the final release. Also, the file name for the release is “6.1.7264.0.win7_rtm.090622-1900,” which contains three very specific letters.

Interestingly, 7264 isn’t the latest build, as a Softpedia reports that there exists a “6.1.7265.0.win7_rtm.090624-1905,” which hasn’t yet leaked.

If all goes as planned, Microsoft will be hitting RTM sometime this month.

Many different posts saying their version did not activate.
1. If you using a patch - You are requred to remove the OLD PATCH before testing the NEW PATCH.
2. Seems over 95% of the x86 versions are activating.
3. Weither you x64 version activates is in the 50/50 chance.
The old swap method used in Vista seems to be the most popular.

I followed the instructions: disabled User Account Control, run Watermark remover as adminstrator etc etc.
However it would not let me run it as update, because some conflict. I could not pass whatever conflict it found. However it let me run the setup.exe file and I ended up as if I installed it from scratch and all my programs and files and drivers were gone. I think that was a mistake. I had invested already to much time in the past to get it running somewhat decently. So I went back and restored the hard drive to my previous RC version. Can anybody tell me how to get it to run as an update ? Or is that, at this time an impossibility on hardware that is a couple of years old and definetely prior to Vista. When Win7 get released how will this be resolved besides buying the latest Computer Hardware. What did I do wrong

Didn't work for me on a third clean install.  While the activation reported as successful, the watermark then had the "This copy of Windows is not Genuine" added to it.  And on reboot a popup window suggests that Windows be re-installed.  I can click Cancel on this and Windows will load to the desktop but without the desktop background, just the default black color.  I can re-do the background to what I want but on a reboot it will change again to the default black color.

First, these are not final builds and you should do a clean install on a clean formated partition each time.  Upgrades are for people that shouldn't be playing with beta and pre-release OS images.  If you installed 47 programs on a beta OS,...you should install the same 47 programs in the next build to see if they work...thats beta testing.  And as for activation, you're just spinning your wheels, wait for the RTM, then find an activation crack...my two cents...

one thing that i have found with the higher builds 7260 and 7264 is that my webcam dont work adn it is a microsoft vx-6000 works great in teh rc build 7100 but driver conflict in teh last 2 builds. i did a search and seems like it is not just me having the problem. hope they fix that little problem before the rtm build.

Yes, the software loading up was problematic for me too. But I just had to keep trying to load up the software again and again... It went on about the fifth time I think.  I found it necessary to first turn off my firewall before loading the software. Then when I got it on and did the updating of software that was available and installed that I  had to hold down the "enter" key instead of pressing it each time to replace existing files. Yes, it was vital to hold down the enter key or as I was finding I'd have been there for nearly ever.

Stop software protection service.
Replace pkeyconfig.xrm-ms with the one from build 7232/7231 located at
C:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\pkeyconfig

Write the .iso to a DVD
Right click on the setup.exe
Set it to run in Vista SP2 Compatibility mode.
Run the setup, it will work.

To upgrade do not move the client down. set the client up to 7260 or 7264 which ever one you are trying to upgrade to.

i have tried to do everything thinkable. when you plug the webcam in and it starts to load the drivers it says there is a conflict. i looked in the device manager and it has the drivers loaded but will not run them because of a incompatability conflict.
at first i had the same with my mouse adn keyboard because i have a wireless laser desktop 6000 and it conflicted then i tried to reinstall and it worked but i just cant get my webcam working.

i searched and other people are having the same problem with this cam.

It worked for half a day and then a popup window from Microsoft said I fell victim to a counterfeit software and then the wall paper showed "This copy of Windows is not Genuine"

I used the script and it didn't work.  It changes the two files alright but somehow I waited but nothing happened.

I just did that manually, and it worked and the stupid line went away.  I just have to hold my breath and see how long it would last before Microsoft detects that and comes back and nag me again.

I hope by that time, there is a legit code comes out or my pre-ordered Windows 7 delivered.

However, if I can get this beta to run, I am not looking forward to my RTM version because this beta is Ultimate version and I pre-ordered is Professional version.
Ultimate version is just too expensive.

Hi Joshoon, it worked for W7 x 64 Bits and didn't for x 32 Bits
The first installation done under x 64bits worked fine Desktop PC, the second one done under x 32bits, was for a NetBook HP-2140 (Worked till the Reeboot) Afterwords appeared the text, that it wasn't an original installation!
