Windows 8 has an awesome feature to share anything from your PC to any application/service installed on your Windows 8 PC e.g. you can share photos right from your ‘Photos’ apps to any social app like Facebook, Twitter, upload to SkyDrive or mail to your friends.

The awesome sharing feature of Windows 8 has been made possible thanks to Share charm of Windows 8 but, the feature only lets you share files from other apps. You can’t share files right from desktop or Windows Explorer to any of the Windows 8 apps using the Share Charm due to restrictions but, there is another alternate to share files from desktop or Windows Explorer to your Windows 8 apps easily.

Sharing files to Windows 8 apps from desktop or Windows Explorer is very easy and we will be telling you the easiest yet simplest way to share files from desktop/Windows Explorer to all Windows 8 apps.

Just follow the instructions below to share any files from desktop or Windows Explorer to your Windows 8 apps.

Before proceeding further to the instructions, you would need to fulfill some requirements which are as follow:

 • Download the ‘Share My Files’ app from Store by going to this link. It’s the app that we will be using to share files from desktop or Windows Explorer to Windows 8 apps.

Note: The app is a paid one which costs $1.99 but, you can get the free trial which would keep working for 5-15 days.

Now, let’s proceed to the instructions:

Instructions:

 • First of all, open the ‘Share My Files’ app which we downloaded earlier.

 • Once open, you would get the option to choose files or folder to share with other apps. Here you can either select individual files to share or select a whole folder.

Note: Selecting different types of files and folders will result in sharing options for different apps.

 • One you have selected your desired files/folder, the file will appear under ‘Files ready to be send or shared’ column.

 • Now, go to the Share charm by pressing ‘Windows key + H’ or swiping from right and selecting ‘Share‘.

 • Your Share charm will open. Here you will get the list of apps on which that file(s) can be shared. Select any one and your file(s) would be shared with that app/service.

 • That’s all! You can share all kind of files from images, videos, .docs, PDF and more but, the apps on which the files can be shared may differ from file to file.
