MWC 2014: Samsung set to unveil Galaxy Tab 4 and Galaxy Gear 2
« on: February 13, 2014, 04:47:11 PM »
Samsung will unveil Galaxy Tab 4 and Galaxy Gear 2 alongside its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, at the upcoming Mobile World Congress, ZDNet Korea has learned.

According to local sources Wednesday, Samsung plans to promote all three main categories of smart devices _ smartphones, tablets and wearable _ at its booth in Fira Gran Via as part of its strategy to maintain its lead over all the hottest sectors.

The Korean technology giant has been remaining mute on the Galaxy Tab 4 tablet ahead of MWC but local sources say it will be put on display there.

It will have three versions, each with a 7-inch, 8-inch and 10.1 inch screen. They are all powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and run Google’s Android 4.4 OS, KitKat. It can hold up to 64 Gigabyte of data with microSD Cards with a 6,800 mAh battery.

It is a substantial upgrade from its predecessor, the Galaxy Tab 3, which was powered by a dual-core with memory capacity up to 32 Gigabyte.

Local sources say it is a low-end device aimed at business clients. The world’s biggest smartphone maker earlier said it wanted to ship more tablets as a way to expand its B2B business.

The new Galaxy Gear 2 will have a flexible OLED display with renovated designs. Its predecessor the Galaxy Gear’s Super AMOLED screen was met rather coldly by consumers due to high price range and lower-than-expected features.

Samsung is dominating the phone market with an overwhelming market share but successes in tablets have been comparatively weaker. The incipient market for wearable is eyed by multiple IT giants including Apple and Google as the next growth engine in the IT market.
