Microsoft Officially Announces Windows 8.1 August Update
« on: August 06, 2014, 10:15:24 AM »
Well, that was lethal. After months and months of enthusiastic rumors and wild speculation, we now have official confirmation that Microsoft will be launching an update this month.

It goes by the name of the August Update, alright.

And it ships out on August 12, as part of the scheduled Patch Tuesday rollout.

But curiously, the software titan has also publicly announced that while more refreshes are planned for its operating systems, they will be launched as monthly updates — instead of a dedicated pack of improvements that arrives under a single name.

This is what Brandon LeBlanc had to say:

Quote
“Rather than waiting for months and bundling together a bunch of improvements into a larger update as we did for the Windows 8.1 Update, customers can expect that we’ll use our already existing monthly update process to deliver more frequent improvements along with the security updates normally provided as part of Update Tuesday.

Despite rumors and speculation, we are not planning to deliver a Windows 8.1 Update 2.”
All this noise — for nothing.

Anyway, this upcoming update, known as August Update, brings a few enhancements, including precision touchpad support, Miracast Receive and minimization of login prompts for SharePoint Online. Along with the usual batch of bug fixes, and other stuff.

That’s all folks.
