Call of Duty: WWII won’t be out until early November, but a multiplayer preview for people who have pre-ordered the game isn’t too far off. The Call of Duty: WWII Multiplayer Private Beta kicks off on September 1st for gamers on Xbox One, although PS4 owners will get even earlier access – just like Destiny 2 – on August 25th.
VIDEO The beta will include three maps, three modes and all five divisions. Limited player progression will also be available, but limited is the key word – you’ll have to wait until November 3rd to get the full experience. Headquarters mode also won’t be available during the beta, as well as loot drops and competitive features/esport modes are locked away as well.
It’s your standard fare for AAA multiplayer early access, basically. The game itself should still be interesting for sure – the Call of Duty franchise is finally returning to its roots, providing grounded gameplay and stepping away from the sci-fi theme recent games in the franchise have focused on.
While this is likely inspired by the success of EA’s Battlefield 1 for sure, the failure of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare might have played an even bigger part in this. Fans of the franchise have been awaiting a return to a more realistic style for a while now, and they certainly showed it – Infinite Warfare’s debut trailer is currently the most disliked gaming video on YouTube. Here’s to hoping WWII provides what they’ve been looking for.
