Is Microsoft planning an AR community to evaluate drivers
« on: January 20, 2019, 02:03:13 PM »
t sounds a bit crazy, and on closer inspection also a bit to scary. Microsoft is apparently working on a concept for an augmented reality community in which motorists can rate each other.

AR glasses as a constant companion for motorists?

Let's first mention the patent description, which was published on 17.01.2019:

Quote
Disclosed is an infrastructure to support an augmented reality (AR) based community for drivers. Each driver's view (eg with an AR device) on other vehicles on the road can be supplemented with virtual information about other drivers in the community. Community riders can express their opinions about the driving behavior of other riders in the community. The opinions of the drivers can be collected and compared to obtain a cumulative rating of a particular behavior for a particular driver. A driver's view of his AR device is complemented by the community's assessment of that driver's driving behavior, which can affect the driver's future behavior.

It describes an AR platform that allows drivers to rate other drivers. This information would then be made visible when putting on, for example, AR glasses, the wearer.

The information is not limited to other drivers or a wearable. For example, information provided by the community may also indicate dangers in the driver's environment. These can be identified by means of AR view - also on a head-up display:

Quote
The present disclosure describes a system for an Augmented Reality (AR) based social community for drivers. In various embodiments, a driver's vehicle may be configured to provide an AR experience while driving. The system may provide the driver's vehicle telemetry, which provides information about nearby community members and their vehicles on the road. The system may augment the driver's view of his real environment, such as a portable advanced device with virtual objects representing information from the received telemetry. For example, in some embodiments, the information may include ratings of those drivers (eg, their driving behavior), which has been voted on or otherwise evaluated by members of the carpool. In some embodiments, the system may provide the AR experience with a head-up display configured with an AR display system.

Data protection?

The information displayed to other drivers by AR should alert them to dangerous driving. In addition, this driver community, similar to the already do services such as "Waze" do, draw attention to dangers or delays in the environment.

It is a patent Microsoft. The information shown does not necessarily have to be used by Microsoft. It is quite possible that you simply want to secure patents that may be licensed and implemented by other companies.

The topic of data protection would also have to be considered with such an evaluation of drivers. On the other hand, such a community would have to agree to this data disclosure. In a sense, this already works for taxi driver reviews or rideshare platforms. The information is only displayed in real time and in the driver's field of vision.
