Build 2019: Upcoming Microsoft Edge Features Announced
« on: May 07, 2019, 01:22:49 AM »

At Build 2019 developer conference, Microsoft announced a bunch of new features for its new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser. The company also shared how the brand-new Microsoft Edge will simplify development and improve the productivity of consumers, developers, and enterprises.

Below we have outlined some of the new features coming to Microsoft Edge.

Collections

Microsoft announced a new feature called 'Collections' for Edge that would allow users to group content such as photos and text into a central hub that can be accessed from the right pane. After adding items to your collection, you can export the content to apps like Word and Excel.

Collections in Edge

Collections is a useful feature if you are researching images, information and various other details for your project, interviews, case studies, and feedback. This Edge feature uses cloud-powered intelligence and an intuitive interface to help you collect, organize, and share content as you travel across the web.

Microsoft says Collections is in its early stages and is not yet available in preview builds.

Updated Privacy tools

Microsoft Edge is also getting new privacy tools that would help you understand how your data is being used by sites across the web and gives you control over various features, including the ability to block trackers.

The privacy dashboard will allow users to choose from different levels of information sharing. If you choose a privacy-focused predefined level, the system will automatically configure the browser to protect users data and give options to configure the exposure to third-party trackers.

This feature is similar to Firefox's Content Blocking feature but does not appear to contain a custom setting that allows you to mix and match different settings.

This feature is also in development and it will be released to the testers soon.

Internet Explorer 11 Mode

Aimed at enterprises, Microsoft announced a new Internet Explorer mode for Edge that brings Internet Explorer 11 compatibility to Microsoft Edge, so that businesses can use legacy sites and applications.

We covered this feature in March, and like then, it is not working in the current builds of Microsoft Edge Canary and Dev.

Developer Tools

Finally, Microsoft Edge also comes with powerful developer tools that are built on the Chromium DevTools for a familiar and capable experience.

Developers can use the built-in tools to inspect and debug any Microsoft Edge-powered web content, including PWAs and WebView. You will get a consistent experience across all these targets.
