Last month, we reported based on the Bluetooth SIG filings that Microsoft might be soon releasing a new keyboard with a fingerprint sensor. Today, Microsoft officially announced the same and the new keyboard looks exactly similar to the existing Surface Keyboard with one key difference. The new Modern Keyboard comes with Fingerprint ID sensor bringing Windows Hello Fingerprint Authentication to any Windows 10 device. The fingerprint sensor is placed as any other key (next to the right Alt key) in the keyboard. This keyboard’s aluminum frame makes it not only of the highest quality but virtually indestructible.

Also, Microsoft is allowing users to use it as either a wireless/wired interface. Also, they have improved the Bluetooth pairing experience, enabling automatic pairing when you connect the cable at first OOBE. It runs on 2 AAA alkaline batteries and comes with 12 months of battery life. It is compatible with devices running following operating systems.

    ■ Microsoft Windows 10 / 8.1 / 8

    ■ Microsoft Windows 10 phone

    ■ Mac OS 10.10.5/ 10.11.1/10.11.4

    ■ Android 4.4.2-5.0

    ■ Host must support Bluetooth 4.0 or higher

It will be available soon for $129.99. Microsoft is rebranding the Surface Mouse as Modern Mouse and it will be available for $49.99 soon. If you want a more compact mouse that will be easy for your travel, check out the new Surface Arc mouse here
