Boy, sure seems a bit strange hearing news of the final signing off, without anything as an official confirmation from Microsoft. But this is how things are, and are meant to be.

Maybe we will get something from the company this week.

Still, while Windows 8.1 Update 1 is still a work in progress at the Redmond offices, word on the street is that the company could sign off the new update by the end of this week — February 23, 2014 to be exact, Sunday and all.

This new information comes from prime Windows leaker Wzor, via unnamed sources, of course.

And this actually means that development on the project is almost finished, and these final stages will require only a few days of work. Microsoft, it was reported earlier, planned on delivering the update to hardware partners by the end of this month so they could deploy on it on their new devices.

End users, however, will only get Windows 8.1 Update 1 in early April, according to rumors.

Which actually makes this whole deal a bit surprising, as the April Patch Tuesday cycle is almost seven or eight weeks away. And even with this reported sign off date of February 23, it will be more than a month before the update starts landing on Windows 8.1 computers.

It will be a free upgrade, when it does, and will be delivered via the built-in Windows Update feature.
