Windows 8.1 Update 1 is shaping up to be the release that rounds up the edges of Microsoft’s newest operating platform in pretty much all areas, from desktop to enterprise usage.

While the list of changes for keyboard and mouse users is now extensively known, it appears that Internet Explorer 11 will also get some new improvements in Update 1 — improvements that should mainly interest enterprise and power users.

There have been reports of companies experiencing issues with some of their older applications on Internet Explorer 11. And in order to solve these problems, Microsoft plans to enhance IE8 compatibility in its latest browsers.

This has been confirmed in a statement:

Quote
“We are enhancing support for enterprise customers via a few tweaks, particularly including features that greatly improve IE8 compatibility in Internet Explorer 11, which is especially critical for web-based line of business applications. Additionally, we’re extending mobile device management capabilities and making deployment easier.”
Now, the couple of leaked builds of Windows 8.1 Update 1 that have reached the web these past few weeks have shown this Enterprise Mode integrated in Internet Explorer 11.

The feature, however, needs to be activated via Group Policy, but chances are that Microsoft will streamline this in the final version of the upcoming operating system.
