Microsoft discoveres that 2.5 out of 10 computers lack updated malware and antivirus protection.
Microsoft has released its Microsoft Security Intelligence Report volume 14 and the software giant has discovered that 2.5 out of 10 computers lack updated malware and antivirus solutions. Microsoft adds that without protection, computers are 5.5 times more likely to be infected with malware.
"People intuitively understand the importance of locking their front doors to prevent their homes from being broken into. Computer security is no different. Surfing the Internet without up-to-date Antivirus is like leaving your front door open to criminals. With the release of this new research, Microsoft is urging people to make sure they have up-to-date Antivirus installed on their computers," Microsoft's Tim Rains stated. He's the director of Trustworthy Computing at Microsoft.
Microsoft has offered a few suggestions to keep safe online. First, "think before you click." This pretty much refers to opening malicious emails or documents. Microsoft also warns against those who download Keygens, which Microsoft detected 7 million times in just the fourth quarter of 2012.
Microsoft reiterates the importance of having an antivirus/antimalware solution. Microsoft suggests taking the proper measures to keep yourself protected while using your computer and reduce your chances of becoming a victim.
