Don’t Hold Out For A Windows 10 Build 9860 ISO
« on: October 22, 2014, 01:48:13 AM »
It ain’t coming, people. Microsoft has just released the first ever refresh of their new OS that is in development. Windows 10 build 9860 is now out for the public to download.

However, the software titan has a set channel for new builds.

Meaning, you will have go through the Windows Update option to grab the new version. If you were expecting ISOs to float around the web, though, then prepare to be disappointed. Microsoft currently has no plans for releasing ISOs for this version.

Gabriel Aul, the head of the Windows Insider program made it clear, when asked:

So basically, no ISO download if you want to do a fresh, clean install.

Which some might, keeping in mind the fact that the download performance from Windows Update is not really ideal in some parts of the globe — people are reporting download times up to an hour or more in some cases.

It does make sense from Microsoft’s perspective, when you think about it.

The very purpose of the Windows Insider program is for users to test the new features of Windows 10, and provide feedback. And the best way to do that is to make them go through official channels.

If you absolutely want direct downloads, then you can grab the .ESD files from official Microsoft servers, and then manually convert them into either DVD ISO or WIM formats. Useful for those that want to do offline updates, or deploy this new build on multiple machines.
