Microsoft is launching a new and improved controller for the XBOX 360 on November 9th. This controller features a more comfortable thumb stick, gray ABXY buttons, and a transforming D-Pad.
Microsoft’s Major Nelson said, in a YouTube video, that the XBOX community has been complaining over the disk-of-a-D-Pad. They’d prefer a more traditional plus-shaped one, so Microsoft engineers have created a d-pad that is a disk like the old one, but when twisted 90°, the d-pad border retracts, leaving only the plus-shaped toggle (illustration Gizmodo).
