Xbox 720, Kinect 2, Kinect Glasses Leaked
« on: June 17, 2012, 06:58:24 PM »
The mother of all leaks has happened with the Xbox 720 being supposedly detailed in the following slides/sketches. It appears that not only future Lumia devices will be able to play full Xbox games, but also that the next Xbox will be the central hub of the living room, playing Blu-rays, 3D graphics and being connected to special 3D glasses.

There will also be a Kinect 2 in about a year or two after the next Xbox launches. The experience will become even more imnerssive and it will blend the real world with the virtual one, according to the 56 page document that leaked. It’s said that the Xbox 720 will debut next year and the presentation seems to be from August 2010, so this has been in the making for a long while now. It references the Smartglass system, a Metro dashboard and Xbox TV apps. Listed as rivals are the Apple TV, strangely enough a PS 4 with Google TV on board and the Nintendo Wii U.

The new console promises a 6x performance increase over the 360, plus it will be able to offer true 1080p output with full 3D support. There’s also an “always on” functioning state of the console and as far as hardware goes, Microsoft is thinking about using 6 or 8 ARM x86 cores clocked at 2 GHz, each with 4GB of DDR4 memory, plus 3 PPC cores at 3.2 GHz each for backwards compatibility with 360 games. The document ends with a prediction of a 10 year lifecycle with over 100 million units sold and a $299 price point with Kinect 2 hardware.

Probably the most interesting aspect here is the Project Fortaleza, meaning the Kinect Glasses, that remind me of the Google Glasses. These ones are WiFi and 4G enabled and provide augmented reality features, being marked as a 2014 product. You can find the full document here.
