MSN targets Facebook and MySpace with two new games
« on: March 08, 2009, 10:09:15 AM »

Microsoft has shown time and time again that it is quite aware of the importance of getting to customers via social networks. The latest example of this comes from MSN Games, which has released two new games on Facebook and MySpace. They've even got a how-to page page for launching the games on Facebook and MySpace, though the MySpace instructions (at time of publishing) is mysteriously missing. The two games in question are "Hexic" (a puzzle game) and "Chess," (I'm sure you know what that is). Both games were developed by Microsoft's Carbonated Games studio, and were ported to Facebook/MySpace by Plexipixel.

The move shows that Microsoft is trying to leverage Facebook and MySpace to drive traffic to MSN Games. The reason I say this is because the applications reward users via collectible merit badges for playing and achieving skills, and also feature leaderboards as well as news feeds from MSN Games. They've even launched a dedicated page on Facebook to promote MSN Games. According to Microsoft, MSN Games hosts more than 600 free casual single-player and multiplayer games, in downloadable and web-only format.
