Spartan Browser To Offer A Slew Of Gaming Technologies
« on: January 29, 2015, 04:16:30 AM »

Thanks to some timely answers provided by the development team, we now know a fair bit about the upcoming Spartan browser that Microsoft is currently cooking up for Windows 10.

Exclusively for Windows 10, of course, as we learned earlier today.

Microsoft Research have been developing and testing the possibilities of playing games in a browser since 2014, in order to ensure that they can deliver a good gameplay experience with immersive games. Gaming in a browser like this can be of immense value for mobile devices and tablets, obviously.

And luckily things are improving on this front, as the IE Dev team confirmed that they are bringing support for gamepads, pointer locks as well as improved WebGL standards to Spartan.

This, they hope, will make Spartan a much more viable alternative for browser based gaming.

Plus it also means that Microsoft’s new browser will be compatible with several modern standards. The company has to cater not just to web developers but also make it attractive to game developers so that they can bring their creations to the platform.

All in all, it sure looks like Spartan is shaping up to be a showcase feature for Windows 10, similar to how Cortana is on the operating system.

More details are sure to be provided at events like BUILD and the GDC.
