Seagate Ultra Mobile HDD is a 5 mm Thin Storage for Your Slate
« on: September 09, 2013, 09:26:00 PM »
Seagate is looking to enter the niche of external storage for tablets in a big way, through a product called the Ultra Mobile HDD. this is a 5 mm thin storage device with a stainless steel design, that can be attached to slates.

The 500 GB unit brings your tablet up to 7 times more space for a reasonable cost. The product features zero gravity sensors, that offer extra protection in freefall of when dropping the unit. It has shock and gyroscope motion tolerance and the funny thing is that the official documents mention the device supports “intense maneuvers of gamers”.

This Ultra Mobile HDD weighs about the same as a lightbulb and it uses a SATA 6 Gb/s interface. It has a 16 MB cache, a spin speed of 5400 RPM, 400 Gs of maximum operating shock and 1.7 W of power are needed to operate it. So, is it worth the sacrifice of having your device plugged to such a device and making it a little bit less portable?
