5 Complaints About Apple iPhone 3G S
« on: July 02, 2009, 02:36:49 AM »

Apple iPhone 3G S users know what they want. They want a slick smartphone that does what it's supposed to. Period. End of story.

Problem is, when you buy a new smartphone right when it hits the market, there are going to be some bugs and kinks to work out before it's smooth sailing. The more than a million people who have picked up the Apple iPhone 3G S since it went on sale a couple of weeks ago are learning the hard way that things aren't always perfect.

Here are the top five complaints about the Apple iPhone 3G S.

1. This pesky overheating thing: It's been widely reported, and probably blown out of proportion, that the Apple iPhone 3G S is prone to overheating. Tech journalists worldwide have pontificated on their hot smartphones with a few going so far as to predict a recall is imminent. Some experts point to the battery as the source of the problem that has the blogosphere burning up. Others say it's just a small number of iPhone 3G S smartphones that have the overheating problem and it should be resolved in short order. Regardless, the iPhone 3G S overheating may be the biggest complaint yet in the iPhone 3G S's short life.

2. The screen has a yellow tint: A handful of hopeful iPhone 3G S buyers must've been pretty bummed to open up their sharp new smartphone only to find a strange yellow tint on the screen that The Register reports makes the device unusable. These jaundiced 3G S are sometimes replaced, sometimes not. According to Apple forums, some Apple store workers are telling users that their yellowing iPhone will right itself and be good as new in no time. Either way, it's an odd and rare problem, but one that could be a major nuisance if your local Apple store won't work with you to right it.

3. Apple is going to run out of the iPhone 3G S: If you're not one of the more than a million users who picked up the Apple iPhone 3G S in its first weekend on sale, you better rush out and get one now before their long gone. Really? No. Not really. But the blogosphere is buzzing with fear that the new iPhone is in short supply and could be sold out before everyone who wants one can get their mitts on it. While we can't track the supply, Apple lets users see if the 3G S is in stock at their local store and even lets users see which models are available. It's worth the 10 seconds on the Web before you rush out to the Apple store.

4. MMS isn't working: One of the biggest gripes around the Apple iPhone 3G S and the latest iPhone OS 3.0 software update is that MMS capabilities aren't available yet. But Apple and AT&T have assured the multimedia messaging masses that MMS is on the way and that it won't cost a penny extra to use it. It would've been nice if MMS was available when the iPhone 3G S went on sale, but it wasn't and it still isn't. AT&T said MMS will be available sometime this summer, which will be a welcomed addition to the new iPhone.

5. The new iPhone's battery life stinks: Apple said the iPhone 3G S offers up to 12 hours of 2G talk time and five hours of 3G talk time. Apple also promised hours of Wi-Fi, hours of video and hours of audio playback on one charge. So far, that hasn't been the case and iPhone 3G S users are steamed. Users have complained of short battery life or "faulty batteries" that don't last and ultimately lead to overheating (see item 1 again). Again, this is a pain, but also a quick fix. Apple will surely replace an iPhone 3G S if its battery is not performing as it should.
