Users Want An Ad Blocker In Microsoft Edge Browser
« on: July 07, 2015, 02:26:27 AM »
Redmond is betting big with Microsoft Edge, the company’s shiny new web browser that is all set to replace the tried and tested Internet Explorer in Windows 10.

This modern new solution has caught the eye of the public, more so in recent months.

And while the software titan working hard to make Edge a better alternative to Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, users expect the company to add even more features before the important RTM milestone this month.

One such request is the addition of an ad blocker.

Posts in the Windows Feedback app in preview builds of the operating system as Microsoft to add this feature as soon as they can, in order to convince as wide a user base as possible to try Edge.

This is what the suggestion reads:

Quote
“We need an ad blocker for Spartan or I’ll be using Firefox.”
It was posted two week back, and currently has more than 1,100 up votes, making it one of the more popular user requests for the upcoming web browser.

Having said that, it’s highly unlikely Microsoft will offer such an option by default — the company needs ad revenue as much as the overall industry does, as almost all popular websites either rely on advertising revenue or subscription payments.

However, with extensions support coming in a future update to Edge, it might not be long before such a feature will become available for those that want it.

Google Chrome extensions are expected to work in Microsoft Edge after a few tweaks, after all.
