Windows 8 has many awesome features including the options to refresh your Windows 8 copy without losing files and apps but, this feature only works when you have your Windows 8 running. When your Windows 8 faces problems and fails to load then what? The refresh feature can be run from within the Windows or you can run if from an external recovery drive created especially for this purpose.

If, you ever lose access to your Windows 8 or somehow Windows 8 stops to start then, this recovery drive can be very useful as its can let you access the recovery options of Windows 8 even when your Windows 8 is not performing or has stopped completely. The recovery device lets you access the features like Refresh, reset, troubleshoot, Command Prompt, and automatic repair etc.

Major features of Windows 8 recovery options:

• You can access the refresh and reset options

• Let’s you run the command prompt

• The option for automatic repair is there

• You can run your Windows 8 in safe mode

So, basically the recovery mode of Windows 8 are the basic commands which lets you perform crucial tasks if, your Windows stops working. But, unfortunately, these features can’t be accessed until you create a recovery drive.

Just follow the instruction below to create a recover drive for your Windows 8/Windows RT so, that you can repair your Windows 8 PC without the need to re-install Windows.

Before proceeding to the instructions, you must fulfill the following requirements:

• Access to a functional Windows 8 PC

• A USB (4GB minimum) or external storage device which is supported by Windows 8

• Take backup of all your data on the external drive as everything on the drive would be formatted in the process

Instructions:

• First of all, plugin your USB/external storage device to your Windows 8 PC.

• Go to the ‘Start Screen’ and search for ‘Recovery’ by typing and selecting ‘Settings’ as filter or you can look for it in ‘All apps’ section of Start Screen.



• Press ‘Recovery’ and you would be taken to desktop where the Recovery options of Windows 8/Windows RT would open.



• Here select ‘Create a recovery drive’.

• A pop-up window would open entitled as ‘Recovery Drive’. Here press ‘Next’.



• Windows will search for the supported drives. Hopefully, you drive would appear in the list if, you have plugged any. Select your desired one and press ‘Next’.



• Next you would be told that everything on the drive will be deleted so, make sure you don’t have any important data on the drive. Press ‘Create’.



• Windows will first format the device and then, copy the files on the drive. It should take few seconds (may take longer or less depending on your PC speed).



• Once the copying process has been completed, you would be told that ‘The recovery drive is ready’.



• That’s all! You can now use the drive in-case your Windows stops working.

But you do not need a 4GB pen drive since the files occupy only about 256 MB.
