Error Code 80070103 Windows Update ran into a problem
« on: November 23, 2013, 07:44:02 PM »
Today while updating my Windows 8.1, I ran to a problem. The update failed, and I received the following message: Error Code 80070103 Windows Update ran into a problem. I tried some of the steps suggested for troubleshooting Windows Update, but nothing helped.

Windows Update Error Code 80070103

After researching a bit in the Microsoft libraries, I found that this Windows Update error code 80070103 is displayed if you try to install a device driver that is already installed on your PC or if the driver that you are trying to install, has a lower compatibility rating, than the one you have already installed on your Windows computer.

Now why would I try to install some driver twice? It was Windows Update which had offered me this update. It was then that I realized that just two days back, Windows Update had offered to install some Intel driver, which I had installed successfully. And it was again an Intel driver that was being offered to me again, today.

If you receive Windows Update error 80070103 while installing updates, you might be trying to install a driver that is already installed on your computer or a driver that has a lower compatibility rating than one you already have installed. To find more information or to get help, try these options:

In case you still need to install the driver, you will need to install the drive manually by downloading it from the manufacturer’s website.

Else, this issue can be safely ignored if this applies to a driver. Microsoft suggests that you can safely hide this update so it is not offered again. To do so, right-click on the update, and select Don’t show this update again.

I decided to hide the drive update.
