What Happened To Windows 9? Satya Nadella Answers
« on: October 09, 2014, 01:51:39 AM »
Microsoft’s CEO has tried to explain what happened with the Windows 9 name, and the answer may surprise you. Not for the reasoning, oh no, but how Redmond went straight to Windows 10.

The company shocked the technology world when it announced the name of its next operating system. Although the successor to Windows 8 went by under the codename of Threshold, it was widely expected to be called Windows 9.

I mean, plain logic, right?

However, when Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO took the stage at Gartner’s Symposium ITxpo to discuss the company’s future cloud strategy, he was asked by a Gartner analyst what actually happened with Windows 9.

Brace for the answer.

Nadella explained that “It came and went”. Just that.

Obviously, the Redmond chief did not provide any specifics on how the software titan decided to name the upcoming OS as Windows 10, and whether there were any real compatibility issues where applications could incorrectly identify Windows 9 as Windows 95.

Some people still believe that this change of heart was with the intention of emphasizing the huge improvements made to the operating system, but we’ll probably need to wait for some more official wordings to piece tougher what actually happened.

But the new name is here, and it’s here to stay.
