Navigon Adds Turn-by-Turn GPS App for Android
« on: November 30, 2009, 08:49:48 PM »

To heck with Google. At least, that's what Navigon seems to be suggesting with the release of MobileNavigator for Android, a voice-enabled, turn-by-turn GPS app for Android-powered smartphones.

The thinking, according to Engadget, is that Navigon is fully aware of Google's awesome, free Google Maps Navigation. But Google's app only works in the U.S.--leaving the rest of the world's hankering for Android GPS goodness free for the taking. And Navigon has been steadily updating its MobileNavigator app on the iPhone side (pictured), and has recently added real-time traffic reports.

Navigon is planning to unveil the Android app on December 10th. The company currently charges $139 for the European version of MobileNavigator on the iPhone, so I expect we'll see similar pricing at least in the short term. It will run on any Android 1.5, 1.6, or 2.0 phone.
