Microsoft extends Windows Server 2008 support date by 2 years
« on: September 25, 2012, 05:02:43 PM »
According to a new report, Microsoft has extended the support cycle for Windows Server 2008 by two additional years. Windows Server 2008 was supposed to end mainstream support on July 9th of 2013, but it will now be given two extra years and will end January 15, 2015.

Starting January 15, 2015, Windows Server 2008 will move from mainstream support to paid (extended) support. Basically, this means security updates for Windows Server 2008 will be free but other updates are only provided once you pay for them. During mainstream support, all updates and patches are free. Windows Server 2008 was originally released to manufacturing back in February of 2008.
