Build 16170 Here As The First Windows 10 Redstone 3 Build
« on: April 07, 2017, 09:06:21 PM »
Microsoft has officially pushed the first Windows 10 Redstone 3 build out to Fast ring Insiders in the form of build 16170, signaling the next wave of development for its operating system.

It is, of course, only available for PCs right now.

Fair warning before you rush to install it on your main computer, though, as Redmond has warned that these first few Redstone 3 builds may well be buggy. The company advises users to either enroll in the Slow ring of its preview program or switch to a secondary PC for these first few versions.

Speaking of version, this new build does not contain any new features.

As is the norm for the first Insiders builds that come right after a major update, build 16170 only contains under the hood changes to OneCore in order to make it optimally structured for teams to start checking in code.

That said, Microsoft has planned a number of big changes in Redstone 3, starting with Project NEON, a new visual refresh of the OS that is on track to bring more transparency and color to Windows 10.

Another big feature is full x86 app emulation on Qualcomm ARM processors, allowing users the ability to run CPU intensive applications like Photoshop on this inexpensive hardware.

A number of Continuum improvements are also incoming, along with a new adaptive shell user interface that scales across phones, PCs and other form factors.

This first build is the start of all that, and we are sure to hear more about these plans at BUILD 2017. The developer conference is scheduled for May 10 to 12 this year, and should provide us with a lot of insights into what Microsoft is planning with the Redstone 3 update.

Until then, these early preview builds will have to do.
