A few leaks and rumors about Nokia’s future plans are making the rounds this morning. First up is a Nokia Communicator device that looks a bit like a Nintendo 3DS thanks to its two screens and 3D display technology.

This device looks like something Nokia is actually considering, having shown up in a patent application from the company. That doesn’t mean it will ever be built, but at least we know that someone at Nokia liked the idea enough to seek a patent on the technology which combines a 3D display with a 2D display, even showing shadows on the lower 2D screen as if the image depicted in the upper 3D display were physically floating in space.

The second set of rumors are on shakier ground, since we only have one guy’s word for it. But that one guy is Eldar Murtazin, who has a habit of breaking Nokia news before anyone else. Sometimes he’s even right.

In this case, he claims that Nokia is working on at least one Windows 8 tablet which will be released in 2012 or possibly 2013.

He also claims that while Nokia will start cranking out phones running Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 operating system soon, the company isn’t done with Symbian and will release 5-7 devices running Symbian in 2012. Maemo, on the other hand, he says is pretty much dead.
