CyanogenMod 6.0 custom Android ROM now available
« on: August 29, 2010, 12:06:02 AM »

After weeks of testing, the latest version of the popular CyanogenMod custom version f Google Android is available for download. CyanogenMod 6.0 lets you replace the software that shipped with your phone with a custom ROM that offers a number of features that may not otherwise have been available.

For instance, it brings Android 2.2 Froyo to phones that don’t officially support the operating system yet. It includes support for FLAC audio playback, web browser enhancements, support for a mouse pointer, a mobile data toggle in the power widget, customizable trackball notifications, and other tweaks — some of which are only available on certain devices. You can find more details in the latest changelog.

CyanogenMod 6.0 will require you to root your phone and gain access to the bootloader, and installing the software can void your warranty or damage your device if you do something wrong, so proceed with caution. But if you’re looking to make your device a heck of a lot more useful — especially an older Android device such as the HTC Hero which may not otherwise get these updates, CyonagenMod ROMs are known as some of the best third party ROMs available.

Version 6.0 is available for the Google Nexus One, Motorola Droid, HTC Dream/Sapphire, HTC Hero, HTC Desire, HTC Incredible, HTC Espresso/Slide, HTC Supersonic/EVO and Samsung Galaxy S/Vibrant. You can find device-specific installation instructions in the CyanogenMod forums.
