Nick Pack, an iDroid developer, has just posted a video of an iPhone 3G running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It's pretty sluggish, and the video quality is poor, but the proof of concept is clear: it's certainly Android 2.3 on an iPhone.
The same developer went on to add that it's still very early days for the port, and that the "iPhone 4 port is under way and progressing steadily." Of course, once it runs on the iPhone 4, the Android 2.3 on the iPad is just the tiniest of baby steps away.
While a public release of Android 2.3 for iPhone is probably a few weeks away, a stable build of Android 2.2 for iPhone is available from the iDroid site; installation is pretty easy, and it runs quite well too.
