Google Android O is coming later this year, and along with a long list of new features (http://www.windows10newsinfo.com/smf/index.php/topic,33018.0.html) and performance tweaks, the operating system is getting new emoji. Like a lot of them. According to emojipedia (http://blog.emojipedia.org/rip-blobs-google-redesigns-emojis/), every single one has been redesigned for Android O. And Fast Company has an article exploring the thinking that went into the new designs (http://www.fastcodesign.com/90125701/googles-18-month-quest-to-redesign-its-terrible-emoji?utm_content=buffer58a55&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer).
The biggest difference? No more gumdrop-esque blob shapes.

The new emoji include round faces, more consistent colors, and a relatively flat, cartoon-like design.
Android O also includes Emoji 5.0 (http://emojipedia.org/emoji-5.0/), with new images including:
► Face with monacle (http://emojipedia.org/face-with-monocle/)
► Child (http://emojipedia.org/child/)
► Shushing Face (http://emojipedia.org/face-with-finger-covering-closed-lips/)
► Face Vomiting (http://emojipedia.org/face-with-open-mouth-vomiting/)
► Pretzel (http://emojipedia.org/pretzel/)
► Dumpling (http://emojipedia.org/dumpling/)
That last one, by the way, has a long and storied history (http://liliputing.com/2016/01/face-palm-shrug-and-selfie-emoji-could-be-coming-in-2016.html).
Google’s decision to ditch the “blobs” seems to be disappointing some Android enthusiasts (http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/6br3eh/rip_blobs_google_redesigns_emojis/). But I suspect folks will get used to the new look… by the time Google gets around to updating the design yet again in another year or two.
