New Microsoft Edge Extensions Keep On Arriving
« on: June 21, 2016, 05:08:57 PM »
The Edge extensions feature may not actually be here yet, but the add-ons keep on piling up, well ahead of the release of this new functionality for Microsoft’s new web browser.

Which pretty much signals that the support for extensions in Edge is already showing signs of success.

Several developers have, over the past month or two, jumped on the extension bandwagon, launching their add-ons for Edge or porting them over from Chrome.

In fact, two new extensions have arrived today.

And to think that this feature is not yet publically available, and only Insiders can try it out and run extensions in the preview builds of Windows 10.

Anyway, the first of the two new arrivals is Breeze, which is a rather simple extension that allows users to have more control over their new tabs. A set of options are provided to configure the new tab page. It has been made available for Chrome, and a port is available for Edge as well.

Another one is Instant Translate, a plugin that does what it says on the tin.

That is, letting users translate online text in a matter of seconds.

This one is quite feature-rich in how users can perform text translation in a pop-up window or even using a tooltip. And there is also the possibility of selecting the text and doing it from the context menu. Even a translation history is provided to look back on previous translations.

Instant Translate is fairy popular on Google Chrome, and now Edge users have the same power in the web browser too.

But the big thing is that Edge extensions are becoming a big thing (ha!) for extension developers, even in its early days.

There are still some rough around these two new add-ons as Breeze gets disabled whenever Edge is closed, while Instant Translate needs to be sideloaded into the browser.
