Users Will Have To Pay For Microsoft Office On The iPad Pro
« on: September 27, 2015, 12:48:48 AM »
Not surprising, but we do have a confirmation of sorts that iPad Pro users are not getting Microsoft Office for free. This being the new tablet that Apple unveiled at its September 9 event.

Which is a direct competitor to the Surface Pro 4.

In some sense, at least.

This new device is aimed at pushing the Cupertino based company towards the productivity market. And taking advantage of the unveiling, Microsoft confirmed the arrival of the Office suite of apps specifically tweaked to run on the new 12.9-inch device.

The keyword being 12.9-inch.

As things stood, some iPad Pro buyers expect to get the Office suite completely free on the new device, but as revealed, an Office 365 subscription is needed for anything more than basic document viewing capabilities on this large new tablet.

Microsoft has a policy of offering Office free of charge only on devices that have a display 10.1-inch or smaller, which is what Redmond defines as a mobile experience.

Anything bigger, and that is going into laptop or notebook category, meaning users have to pay.

So for a full featured Microsoft Office experience on your iPad Pro, you will definitely have to purchase an Office 365 subscription, the most affordable of which runs $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year. Otherwise, the apps you download from the App Store are only good for viewing, not editing.
