60 Most Anticipated PS5, PS4 Games of 2023
« on: January 02, 2023, 03:28:21 PM »
What are the most anticipated PS5 and PS4 games of 2023? Publications like Push Square sound like a broken record every January when they proudly declare that the next 12 months in gaming are the best ever. However, in this case, it could possibly be true: the series looks extraordinary. Of course, there’s always the potential for delays, but right now we’re looking at a literal deluge of games.

With the New Year now here, we had to compile a list of our 60 most anticipated titles, and you’ll find them below. Please keep in mind that if we included everything, we’d be here until 2024, so this is more of a curated list of the cream of the crop. We’d love it if you stuck around until the end of this article to vote for your most wanted – and we’ve even included an Other category for the remaining releases we missed.

So without further ado, let’s dive into this veritable feast of upcoming PlayStation software…

Publisher: Epic Games / Developer: Remedy

Release date: 2023 (US) / 2023 (UK/EU)

A sequel 13 years in the making, Alan Wake is finally back for a pure survival horror adventure from Remedy. It’s unclear how much of the original game will play a role, but after references in Control, the book author will eventually write his next novel. Or he will have to deal with the monsters at his doorstep. The latter seems more likely.

Publisher: Embark / Developer: Embark

Release date: 2023 (US) / 2023 (UK/EU)

A free-to-play co-op shooter about fending off a mechanized alien threat? While Arc Raiders sounds like the most video game game ever, its impressive debut trailer has us pumped. The visuals look top-notch, and the gameplay seemingly combines traditional shooting with more over-the-top, physics-based antics. This will be one to watch.

Publisher: Bandai Namco / Developer: FromSoftware

Release date: 2023 (US) / 2023 (UK/EU)

FromSoftware returns to its roots with mega-sequel Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon – only this time it has the unprecedented success of Elden Ring fueling it. It’s practically guaranteed to be the most popular entry in the long-running series, and it’ll be interesting to see if the Japanese developer’s newfound fame helps this hard-core robot-tossing sequel appeal to mainstream gamers.

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft

Release date: 2023 (US) / 2023 (UK/EU)

After a couple of sprawling RPGs from Assassin’s Creed, the upcoming Mirage is being billed as a return to the classic stealth gameplay of earlier entries. It’s set in Baghdad and that means you can expect more orchestrated Black Box missions, where your goal is to think creatively about how to solve each objective.

Publisher: Focus Entertainment / Developer: Mundfish

Release date: 21 Feb 2023 (US) / 21 Feb 2023 (UK/EU)

Atomic Heart is one of those games that almost seems too good to be true. The first title from developer Mundfish, there’s a visual and gameplay quality to it that you’d only expect from the biggest AAA studios. Still, Mundfish is very indie. Atomic Heart could be really good – the key word being could be – but we’ll remain skeptical until we’ve played it for ourselves.

Publisher: Amazon Games / Developer: Bandai Namco

Release date: 2023 (US) / 2023 (UK/EU)

The success of Genshin Impact left other publishers itching for a similar hit, and while Blue Protocol from Amazon Games and Bandai Namco isn’t a one-to-one clone, it’s clearly for the same audience. Playable both alone or in co-op, this free-to-play RPG has real pedigree behind it.

Publisher: Team Reptile / Developer: Team Reptile

Release date: Q3 2023 (US) / Q3 2023 (UK/EU)

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, a Jet Set Radio sequel in all but name, looks very promising. You’ll explore open urban environments, pull off tasty tricks and mark your territory with expressive graffiti. With music provided by Hideki Naganuma and disciplines such as skateboarding, BMX and inline skating, it can be a blast in the Dreamcast era.

Publisher: SEGA / Developer: Relic Entertainment

Release date: 2023 (US) / 2023 (UK/EU)

Company of Heroes 3 marks the series’ debut on PlayStation, so we can finally learn what it’s all about. Published by SEGA and developed by Relic, it is a real-time strategy game about commanding World War II troops around the battlefield. With new controls built with console gamers in mind, we hope it will be that rare thing – an RTS that’s fun to play on the road.

Publisher: CD Projekt Red / Developer: CD Projekt Red

Release date: 2023 (US) / 2023 (UK/EU)

Cyberpunk 2077, at least on a PS5, is good again. It’s also more popular than ever, with Netflix’s excellent anime adaptation drawing new crowds to Night City. Idris Elba will star in this enormous expansion, which will be the game’s one and only major DLC addition.

Publisher: Deep Silver / Developer: Dambuster Studios

Release date: 28 April 2023 (US) / 28 April 2023 (UK/EU)

Another game on this list that’s been delayed more times than it’s likely to receive in review ratings, 2023 looks to finally see the release of Dead Island 2. To be fair, the footage released since the recent re-reveal has looked pretty good, so it could be a good open world to turn your brain off for. It’s Dying Light 2 with guns, which already sounds better than what Techland managed.

Publisher: Electronic Arts / Developer: EA Motive

Release date: 27 January 2023 (US) / 27 January 2023 (UK/EU)

Something has gone seriously wrong if the Dead Space adaptation doesn’t score a 9/10 when PS5 reviews drop at the end of January; it’s one of the best survival horror games out there, making it an easy sell to fans of the genre. EA Motive seems to have lovingly recreated the USG Ishimura in beautiful 4K, then expanded where it could with new sections to the ship and a talking protagonist. Dead Space on PS5 will be excellent, there’s no doubt about it.

Publisher: Bungie / Developer: Bungie

Release date: 28 Feb 2023 (US) / 28 Feb 2023 (UK/EU)

Bungie continues its journey towards what is being touted as the end of Destiny 2 as we know it in the upcoming Lightfall DLC. You should expect the usual: another fantastic campaign, more weapons to use, and a boatload of players repeating the phrase, “I should probably try to get back into Destiny.”

Publisher: Blizzard / Developer: Blizzard

Release date: 6 June 2023 (US) / 6 June 2023 (UK/EU)

The king of dungeon crawlers is set to make a big comeback in 2023. Its predecessor is somewhat divisive for its departure from the somber tone of fan-favorite Diablo 2, but this new entry looks to return to that darker style. We’ve already started Diablo 4, and we’ve come away impressed with the gritty combat, beautiful visuals, and addictive progression. Definitely, one to watch out for.

Publisher: Capcom / Developer: Capcom

Release date: 2023 (US) / 2023 (UK/EU)

Dinosaurs attack in their dozens in this PvPvE experiment from Capcom, in which you’ll form uneasy alliances with opposing teams to fend off prehistoric threats. Armed with exosuits and futuristic combat gear, it’s hard to predict if it will be a hit, but facing unimaginable hordes of triceratops certainly gives it a fighting chance.

Publisher: Cosmo Machia / Developer: Cosmo Machia

Release date: 22 Feb 2023 (US) / 22 Feb 2023 (UK/EU)

The legendary PS2 launch title FantaVision returns in a PSVR2 reimagining, where your goal is to catch and match fireworks in a therapeutic puzzle. Expect proven gameplay with added immersion, all courtesy of Sony’s new generation headset.

Publisher: Koei Tecmo / Developer: Tecmo

Release date: 9 March 2023 (US) / 9 March 2023 (UK/EU)

Previously a Nintendo Wii exclusive, cameras are your primary combat option in this remastered version of Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. In a year full of survival horror re-releases, this may be one of the lower-profile revivals, but fans of the genre will want to keep it firmly in their sights.

Publisher: Square Enix / Developer: Square Enix

Release date: Q4 2023 (US) / Q4 2023 (UK/EU)

It’s hard to say definitively if Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released in 2023, with Square Enix only giving it a “Winter” release window. However, if it does push through before the end of the year, we’ve got another fantastic RPG on our hands. Continuing the story of Cloud Strife, the protagonist will leave Midgar for new places in the second part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga.

Publisher: Square Enix / Developer: Square Enix

Release date: 22 June 2023 (US) / 22 June 2023 (UK/EU)

As long as Square Enix doesn’t screw it up, Final Fantasy XVI is another Game of the Year 2023 contender. The Journey of Clive Rosfield is one we’re very much expecting to arrive with a good amount of excitement off the back of some very promising footage – both in-game and cutscenes – the journey of Clive Rosfield.

Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment / Developer: First Contact Entertainment

Release date: 2023 (US) / 2023 (UK/EU)

Its community was small, but Firewall Zero Hour was a much-loved tactical first-person shooter for PSVR. Developer First Contact has kept the game alive with a series of major post-launch updates, and now it’s finally moving toward a sequel with Firewall Ultra. Launching day and date with PSVR2, it will take full advantage of the new technology to deliver an immersive multiplayer experience.

Publisher: Square Enix / Developer: Luminous Productions

Release date: 24 January 2023 (US) / 24 January 2023 (UK/EU)

Finally ready for release, Square Enix introduces its PS5 console exclusive Forspoken to praise attributed to those magical traversal abilities and combat powers. You can only tell so much in a preview, but if you can get over the constant attitude and cursing of protagonist Frey Holland, then Forspoken will be one to watch out for.
