6-Core Xeon Gulftown Processor May Be Coming to Mac Pro
« on: November 29, 2009, 08:35:17 PM »

With the new Mac Pro line due out in early 2010, Apple’s likely implementing new processor technology in the computers. After all, Apple’s new iMacs recently received Core i7 processors when released, not too long ago.

We’re now learning that according to Hardmac.com’s sources, Apple is implementing Intel’s 6-Core Xeon Gulftown Processor into the system. The CPU with offer 6 cores engraved at 32 nm. According to Hardmac.com, “At equivalent clock speed, it is 50% faster than the corresponding quad core Xeon for parallel tasks. Despite having 50% more transistors, the CPU strongly benefits from 32-nm engraving as it drains 50% less power in idle mode and 10% less in full loading mode.”

It’s simply too early for us to make any stone-written remarks on the technology. We’ll just simply have to wait and see what 2010 brings us.
