A few months ago, we reported that Microsoft is bringing WordPad, Windows Fax and Scan, XPS Viewer and the Microsoft Character Map apps to the Windows Store. The apps are now available on the Windows Store for download, and Windows Insiders running the latest build of Windows 10 should be able to download the apps from the Windows Store. It seems like Microsoft has used the Desktop App Converter (also known as Project Centennial) to bring the classic Windows apps to the Windows Store for Windows 10 PCs. Just like any other Centennial port, these apps work just like the classic Win32 apps, which really isn’t that surprising.
This is probably just the start, and Microsoft should bring more of its classic Windows apps to the Windows Store using Desktop App Converter. The company obviously hopes that other software developers will also do the same when Windows 10 Anniversary Update is available to the public. If you are not an Insider, you will be able to download some Win32 apps from the Windows Store once the Anniversary Update is available, which is expected to arrive sometime next month.
However, if you are an Insider, you can get the apps from the links below. Keep in mind that you’ll need to be on one of the latest Windows 10 Insider builds, and make sure that the Windows Store is up to date.
