Finnish firm Jolla was present at MWC 2015, where they showcased their Jolla tablet, a Sailfish OS device, that we got to check out up close and personal in the hands on video below.
Sailfish OS was built on top of the Mer open source project and it runs perfectly on this slate. The Jolla Tablet started as an Indiegogo project, that has received more than $2.2 million funding from over 18k backers. The product offers access to Android apps and runs them without problems. The 8 inch Jolla Tablet is currently priced at $249 and it runs Sailfish OS 2.0, with a very nice multitasking system.
We’ve got a QWERTY keyboard on board, that splits into two in landscape orientation, so it makes thumb typing easier. There’s also a customizable quick settings bar, that can be triggered with a swipe away from the homescreen. Jolla included an aggregated notifications feed, a bunch of themes and its core gestures include swiping up anywhere to get to the apps area or swiping to the side to have a glance at the homescreen.
There are application covers here, which are basically small cards that show you open apps on the homescreen. Jolla takes great pride in multitasking between apps without having to return to the homescreen. Apps are shown in a grid, with live info attached to them. This is a 7.85 inch tablet with a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution and a quad core Intel 1.8 GHz processor, a 5 MP camera and 32 or 64 GB of storage, as well as a 4450 mAh battery.
