Samsung has just officially announced its Galaxy Alpha smartphone. This device has been rumored for quite some time, but is now official. This is Samsung’s big iPhone killer and it’s dressed to impress with a brand new design featuring a metal frame, compact body, and solid finish. Check out Samsung’s official video and the Alpha’s specifications below.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha features a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,280 x 720, an Octa Core (Quad 1.8GHz   Quad 1.3GHz) processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, an 1,860mAh battery, 12-megapixel rear camera, and a 2.1-megapixel front facing camera. The 12-megapixel rear camera is capable of capturing up to UHD (3,840 x 2,160) quality video. Unfortunately, the Alpha does not have a MicroSD card slot, so you’ll be limited to the 32GB of storage available.

At just 6.7mm thick, Samsung says this is one of “the slimmest Galaxy devices ever.” Much like the Galaxy S5, the Alpha features Ultra-Power Saving Mode, S Health, Finger Print Scanner, Private Mode and is also compatible with the Samsung Gear Fit, Gear Live and Gear 2.

It’s also important to note that the Alpha will ship running Android 4.4.4 KitKat, which is the latest version at this time, but expect it to be skinned with TouchWiz.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Alpha will be available at the beginning of September and come in quite a few color variations (depending on market) including: Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Frosted Gold, Sleek Silver, and Scuba Blue.

No specific launch markets/partners have been announced at this time. There are a couple of Russian blogs (one with a full review of the Alpha) claiming a September 12 launch date with preorders starting August 15 (and a full hands-on video here), but Samsung has not confirmed any international release dates at this time.
