Desktop issue
« on: March 06, 2011, 02:25:23 PM »
Hey dudes

Yesterday and this morning I have been experiencing a problem with my desktop.

My computer stays on but the screen goes blank and never comes back on. I have to turn it off and turn it on agan. It's an Acer Aspire M5802.

Tech Support:

Did you try this: hit ctrl+alt+backspace it goes to the login screen it brings the screen back on.

besides the workaround from Tech Support you can push the on button for your computer which will cycle your system on and bring up the log on screen too.

It turns itself off when I install Windows and watching YouTube videos. Could it be a graphics card or power supply issue?

could be either one or both but first check the monitor connector cable.

I have tried my old Dell monitor but I still have the same issue. The PC stays on and the screen shuts off.

Turn off Hibernate and set the power settings to never turn off the monitor.  Then you manually turn off the monitor.

How to Enable/Disable Hibernate
It's not a hibernating issue because it does it without Windows, also I have to keep logging into all my websites.

o i c...when did this start?

when you start your computer do you have a monitor, and if so for how long?

is your video card dual head? if so plug the monitor into the other head.  i have seen where the vga or dvi end of a cable is to heavy and over time dislodges the solder from that head to the point of working shortly then going dark.

My video card is Nvidia Geforce GT200. It shows up perfectly at the moment but when I start watching YouTube videos it randomly goes blank.
