Acer unveiled a very powerful hybrid between tablet and notebook at CES 2016, a device called Aspire Switch 12 S. The device comes with Acer Snap Hinge Gold, that supports fast data streaming of up to 6 Gbps between the slate and keyboard.

Acer also included here the ExoAmp antenna, built into the anodized aluminum chassis, that offers a faster and reliable WiFi. The device is only 7.85 mm thin and weighs around 800 grams (tablet only). Inside we find the 6th gen Intel Core M processor and on the connectivity front, the most impressive feature is certainly the Thunderbolt 3 to USB C, offering speeds of up to 40 Gbps.

Switch 12 S comes in 4K or Full HD versions, with the 12.5 inch screen on board protected by Gorilla Glass 4. Upfront we also find the front facing speakers with Acer TrueHarmony and Dolby Audio Premium technology, that guarantee rich sound and minimal distortion. Windows 10 is the OS of choice here and Acer provides support for WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac and 2×2 MU-MIMO which is up to 3 times faster than regular WiFi, as well as more stable and reliable.

At the back there’s a new Intel RealSense Camera with support for 3D scanning and enhanced video and photos. It can also scan rooms in 3D, apparently. The screen is probably the strongest point here, an IPS with Zero Air Gap and BlueLightShield for reduced eye strain. There’s a front facing HD camera also in the mix and this model provides two USB 3.0 ports, a micro HDMI and a microSD card reader.

We’ll find it with 4 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of SSD storage starting with February in North America, with a starting price of $999.99.
