Microsoft’s newest version of Office – Office 365 delivers all of the familiar Office applications with reinvented interface and more powerful tools. Its subscription based service that allows keeping full versions of the latest Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher and Access. It automatically renews each year and continuously updates program features. This ensures you run the latest version of the software, every time you open it.
Most portable and new generation devices such as Tablets and Smartphones which have taken over people’s lives let you set up and use Office 365 on them to access mails, make presentations, edit documents and do more. These include very popular Operating Systems like iOS, Android and even Symbian and Blackberry. Here’s a rundown of the main elements included/available on different phones and tablets.
Office 365 features for smartphones & tablets
Email Sync Office 365 comes with Microsoft Exchange Online (which provides your email, calendar, contacts, and more) and Microsoft Outlook Web App (which you can use to read all that information). When you create a user account, Office 365 automatically creates a mailbox for each user. You can then import each user’s email to Office 365. This can be done in various ways. After your email is on Exchange Online (which comes with Office 365), you can read it on a mobile device. If you want to allow mobile access only to certain devices, you need to have people type in a PIN before reading mail on their phone or other mobile device.
Calendar Sync The Calendar in Office 365 lets you create and track appointments and set up meetings with colleagues. When you set up a meeting, you can use the feature to check your schedule and know if your colleagues are available too. If yes, you can then send a meeting request to them right away.
Contact Sync Users can create contacts to email address, street address, and telephone number
Access Documents in SharePointSharePoint is a document managing and sharing platform that comes closely integrated with the Office suite. It allows groups to set up a centralized, password protected space for document sharing. Documents can be stored, downloaded and edited, then uploaded for continued sharing. SharePoint in Office 365 has been thoroughly modernized, complete with a ‘modern’ look. Apart from allowing sharing of documents, SharePoint features cloud storage, social networking and an app development ecosystem.
View Word, Excel, PowerPoint documents Learning things on the newest edition of Word isn’t going to be too scary if, you have already played with the previous versions of the Office app. The same is applicable to Excel and PowerPoint documents.
Edit and create Word, Excel, PowerPoint documents The new of version of Word allows you to open and edit PDF files and moreover, includes support for directly embedding internet photos and video into documents, in a fully viewable form.
Excel too has received some usable feature upgrades. A new feature called ‘Flash Fill’ has been incorporated in Office 365. It is sort of auto-complete feature for spreadsheets that cleverly analyzes what you’re putting into your spreadsheet and then tries to help by suggesting certain options. For instance, if you are entering the same number into each row of a given column, the feature will automatically fill the rest of the column with that number.
Some significant improvements have been made to PowerPoint. Here, I am referring to its video capabilities. When using the app, you can search YouTube straight from it, select a video from SkyDrive or your local computer, or even paste in the embedding code for video from another website.
