Year Old Lumia 1520 Smokes The iPhone 6, And How!
« on: September 17, 2014, 07:10:16 PM »
Not many people expected Apple to take the foot of the pedal in this fashion for the A8 processor, but according to preliminary benchmarks the iPhone 6 doesn’t exactly leaps in performance.

At least in the graphics department — this benchmark below only takes into account the GPU.

So then, the latest tests performed by Rightware show that the new A8 processor that powers the newly unveiled iPhone 6 managed to score 21,204 points. Which is peculiarly close to the 20,254 points that the iPhone 5S grabbed.

The different, as you can see, is really marginal.

For comparison purposes, the iPhone 5 came in at 10,973 points, while the iPhone 4S scored 5,034.

Microsoft’s Nokia Lumia 1520, the Windows Phone powered phablet takes the GPU crown with ease, finishing top of the list with an impressive 25,346 points.

And the surprising thing is that the Lumia 1520 is far from being the newest kid on the block. It houses the 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, which works in tandem with the Adreno 330 GPU. Hardly the newest solutions.

Benchmarks aren’t everything they say, but the way Apple designed these new chips sure is a little startling. The iPhone 6 is currently in the 17th place on this list, and with the Sony Xperia Z3 incoming, expect it to fall even further when it comes to graphics rankings.

No wonder the company did not talk much about performance at the iPhone 6 launch event.
