Windows 10 Preview To RTM Upgrade Might Be Possible
« on: December 06, 2014, 05:24:00 AM »
Although only a small fraction of the user base installed the Windows 10 Preview, there are some that are running these early builds as their main operating system.

On their main computers, to boot.

And if you’re one of these fine folks, then you are probably concerned about whether you will lose all your files when the stable version of Windows 10 is released. You know, upgrading directly to the RTM release, instead of doing a clean install and all that fun stuff.

Well, Gabriel Aul has chimed in on this.

The Microsoft executive revealed in a short tweet that upgrades from the Technical Preview branch to the final retail release are very likely to be possible next year.

Nothing is set in stone, though, as Aul only points out that this is the intent.

It might change if anything changes during development of the operating system, which is still in early stages right now. Besides, you may recall that this was not the original plan — so maybe the thought process changed a bit at Redmond these past few months.

Who knows?

Microsoft still maintains on the official Windows Technical Preview website that the Technical Preview build of Window 10 expires on April 15, 2015.

This deadline will probably get bumped by a few moons, once the Consumer Preview is out.
