How to stop Windows 8 apps from accessing your location

Some of the Windows 8 apps require your location to function but, these apps can access your location without your permission. You can stop those apps from accessing your location by changing the location settings.



Although, you are asked to select location settings during Windows 8 post installation as well as on first time use of apps but, still some apps can use your location and you will have to change the settings manually to stop the apps from accessing your location. This tutorial will guide you through the process of disabling location access by apps.
 
Just follow the instructions below and you would be able to stop apps from accessing your location in seconds.
 
Instructions:
 
Method 1- Stopping individual apps
 
You can stop individual apps from accessing your location by following the steps below.
 
• Open up the app which uses you location e.g. Maps app etc.
 
• Once open, go to ‘Charms Bar’ by moving your mouse cursor down from top right corner or swiping from right.
 
• Select ‘Settings‘ in Charms Bar.
 
• Your app Settings would open. Here select ‘Permissions‘.



• You would be taken to the Permissions Charm of the app. Here you would see the Location button. Turn it off by moving the slider switch to the left.



• Now, your app doesn’t have permission to use your location.
 
Method 2- Stopping all apps by turning the location settings off
 
You can stop all apps from accessing your location by turning the location settings off which can be done by following the steps below.
 
• Open up ‘PC Settings‘ by going to Charms Bar and then selecting ‘Change PC Settings‘.



• Your ‘PC Settings‘ would open. Here navigate to ‘Privacy‘ column.



• You would see the ‘Let apps use my location‘ option. Turn it off by moving the slider switch to the left.
 
• Now, all the apps won’t be able to access your location.
